ABOUt
THe MArching SKaletons
When we were unexpectedly awakened from the eternal sleep we had a shared wish to keep alive the origins of ska, to share this with others, and to dance. When writing new tunes we keep the flame of this music in our hearts and to share classic and unearthed tunes from the first wave of ska.
The image for the band was very important and was designed by wonderful artist Jim Sanders and we started playing both as a street and stage band.
We are really pleased to have forged close working relationships and repeat bookings at Camp Bestival, Chris Tofu, Elderflower Fields Festival, Madness, Wickham Festival, Hootenanny Brixton, Gaz's Rocking Blues and The Brighton Ska train.
If you've ever woken one morning with your feet still dancing and thinking, "wow that skeleton ska band last night raised the roof", then you will have seen us at one of the following shows.

ONCE A MONTH WE FOCUS ON A DIFFERENT BAND MEMBER
2nd June 2023
This month we focus on drummer and artist Jim Sanders who designed the SKAleton outfits. He has long worked in both painting and design for stage and performance. Jim's work has an affinity with Primitive, Outsider, and non-Western Art, sharing their common concerns with universal experiences of birth, love, sex, reproduction and death. Skeleton themes are common in his art and there is a clear link between the SKAleton outfits and his paintings.
By employing contemporary art methodologies, referencing a vast range of visual languages, and anthropological connections, he pulls the past into the present.
Sanders makes comparisons between disparate social interactions across time in order to find and frame the essential questions of existence.
If you are in Brighton look out for guided tours of his unique home which he has crafted into a living embodiment of his art.
